Hers and His: The Versa Gripps Difference!!!
Ok Everyone, this is my FIRST installment of Hers and His! Hers and His will cover a variety of topics from a mens and womens perspective. I've invited my husband, Jelani Kelly, to be my guest and speak on the man's point of view. He is a fitness enthusiast/gym rat, like myself, who offers a straight forward and witty opinions on all things health and fitness. Jelani and I were given the opportunity to trade in our old straps for Versa Gripps(www.versagripps.com). Here is the Hers and His...
Hers...I was incredibly excited when I got my Versa Gripps in the mail! I usually don't go crazy with gym accessories, but good gloves and good straps are important to me. I hit the gym, warmed up for about 8 minutes and went to the weight room to set for for my first set of Back exercises: Single Arm Dumbbell Rows superset with Overhand and Underhand Barbell rows. At first glance, the Versa Gripps were stunning. The pink and black label on the wrist strap of the Fit style was tough but still feminine and I smiled to myself as I tightened the velcro on the strap. The "wrap" part of the Versa Gripp extends from the bottom of the wrist strap up to almost the top of my middle finger so it's shorter than a traditional strap. It's made of a somewhat sticky material that helps the weight stay locked in place as you do the exercise. I knew this was gonna be a great workout! I grabbed my dumbbell, placed the wrap part around the dumbbell and began to do my rows. The feeling was amazing! I usually have to grip the dumbbell so tight even when using traditional straps but this time, my grip was comfortable! I was able to really focus on using my lats to do the work instead of worrying about my grip and how tight it was. I was able to lift 10 lbs more than normal COMFORTABLY when using the Versa Gripps! Truly amazing...I also used the Versa Gripps for my underhand and overhand barbell rows. The Gripps made it easier to hold the bar and once again, I was able to focus on the muscles being worked instead of the bar almost slipping out of my hands. One day with the Versa Gripps made me a believer! No more back days without them...
His...First I would like to preference that I am a big fan of gym accessories. I don't always think they are needed to get a quality workout in, but I definitely have an affection for them. I have seen the ads for Versa Gripps for sometime now so when I was offered the opportunity to try a pair out, I could not wait to get to the gym with them! The pair I tried were the Versa Gripps Pro style. One word to describe my experience using the Gripps is WOW! If you are an intermediate or advanced resistance training athlete, this tool will enhance your workouts. The beauty of the Versa Gripps is that it is a wrist support and weight wrap all in one. It also has a better grip than most weight gloves I have used in my past. I don't know all the technological terms but I know this- the design works. The wrist strap is designed so you can actually keep your wrist watch on while wearing the Gripps. I know most conventional straps or wraps don't allow for that. The actual grip piece is awesome. It is flexible so you can use it effectively for pushing motions and pulling motions with a dumbbell or a barbell. Exercises that you might lose reps due to hands getting weaker is not an issue when using the Versa Gripps. I can go heavy with bench press, one arm rows, deadlifts, lat pulldowns and even pullups. The grip has a similar feel to the sticky grip that brand new Wide Receiver gloves have for football players. If you have ever tried those, you know how great the grip is on those gloves. I am very satisfied and feel like the Versa Gripps may be one of the best gym accessories I have ever used...and believe me, I have used a lot!
The Conclusion...She loved it. He loved it. You better get yourself a pair!
